Fall Hay Fundraising Goal
For the last 3 months we have been in a brutal drought all of our pastures have stopped growing grass. That means we are going through over 10,000 pounds of hay weekly.
Join us in nurturing a happy,
hay-filled haven for our residents to thrive through the rest of 2024 and into the new year! Help us raise $14,500 to stock up on enough hay bales to keep everyone fed and prep for the cold Fall months ahead. Your donations mean every animal at Austin Farm Sanctuary gets to have a full belly and soft bed to snuggle up.
Why Is Hay So Important For Our Residents?
Hay is something that can be enjoyed by the majority of species we home at Austin Farm Sanctuary. Our pigs love to snuggle up in beds full of hay for their lazy days and chilly nights. The cows and goats primary feed source (and thus our primary cost) is hay. By donating for hay bales, you're donating for everyone.
Using hay for bedding during the colder months allows us to ensure our animals' safety. It can trap body heat to provide excellent insulation, it absorbs moisture to avoid damp sleeping conditions, and reinforces the resident's natural burrowing behaviours. After all, a happy, healthy home is what we strive for.
While pasture is limited due to the drought, hay becomes an essential food source in providing all the necessary nutrients to our animals. Having constant access to hay also reduces competition between animals and consequently aids in minimizing their stress levels. Plus, it's just pretty damn tasty.
As always, a massive...
